Grand Prix Meet Summary
I learned many things a couple weeks ago while attending this competition.......

We had athletes NOT have a great start to a meet yet found a way to turn it around

- Angel had two lifetime best swims in the 50 Free and 100 Fly, but was a little off of her expectation in her other two events

- Brenna's last event of the meet was a best time by 2 ½ seconds

- CC had success in an event she does not like to swim

During the course of one day of competition at a meet like this, it is possible to swim 10,000 meters.

- Chris warmed up for his 200 fly, raced the 200 fly and warmed down 2500-3000 meters

- Chris' second event for the day was 200 IM, his re-warm-up and warm down for this event = 1500 meters

- preparation for 1500 meter event, race the 1500, warm down for the event = 3000 meters

- Final's swim was in the 200 fly, re-warm-up and warm down = 1500 meters

TOTAL = 9,000 METERS APPROX.

WHY DO WE SWIM DOUBLES, WHY DO WE EXCEED 10,000 METERS/DAY MINIMUM, WHY DO WE SWIM 2 ½ TO 3 HOUR PRACTICES, WHY DO WE PRACTICE INTENSE DRY LAND SESSIONS???? THESE CHAMPIONSHIP STYLE SWIM MEETS REQUIRE AN ATHLETE TO BE WELL-PREPARED, HAVE BEEN CONSISTENT @ PRACTICE AND SWIM DOUBLES TO FACILITATE PRLEIM-FINAL REHEARSAL.

Amy got tough, in a tough situation.......

-Amy swam her 200 back on day two of the meet. She missed making her goal time (sub 2:18) but, she qualified 23rd and realized a second chance to make trials in finals. (2:16.55, made her trial cut)

-Amy's second event for the day was 50 free (trial cut 26.39). She swam a best 26.84, first time under 27.0, but qualified 26th, a tie for 26th place or second alternate. This forced a swim-off before leaving the preliminary session....so within 20 minutes of her 1st 50 swim; she was up against one other swimmer for the alternate spot. They raced to a second tie (that never happens) 26.73 (both got faster). They swam an easy 50, waited less than 5 minutes and raced again..........Amy out-touched her competition 26.93 vs. 27.03.

WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO APPLY YOURSELF THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRETY OF A SWIM SET? BEING ABLE TO MISS A GOAL TIME, STILL QUALIFY FOR FINALS, GO BEST TIME IN A SECOND EVENT FOR THE DAY, WIN A SWIM OFF AND THEN COME BACK AT NIGHT FOR FINALS AND MAKE YOUR OLYMPIC TRIAL CUT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!!!!!!

Some of our parents made the trip to support their athletes and the TEAM.

-Thank you for ALL of your help over the successful SILVER FIN weekend

I LEARNED THAT WE HAVE THE BEST TEAM IN THE STATE AND WE OUT SWAM EVERYONE FROM THE STATE OFARIZONA!!!! OH YEAH, I ALREADY KNEW IT.

Parent Meeting
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT PARTICIPATED IN OUR RECENT PARENT MEETINGS. TOPIC OF CONVERSATION WAS THE FORMING OF A NEW COMMITTEE. THE "PAC" (Parent Advisory Committee) IS BEING FORMED TO FACILITATE THE ONGOING NEED FOR THIS TEAM TO VOLUNTEER AND FUNDRAISE. THIS SUPPORT SYSTEM ALLOWS FOR ALL PARENTS TO ESTABLISH A ROLE ON THIS TEAM THAT WILL ENHANCE, MAKE BETTER AND POSITIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO THE DIRECTION OF THIS TEAM. THE COACHING STAFF HAS THEIR VISION AND IT WILL BE THE SOLE PURPOSE OF THIS COMMITTEE TO REALIZE THAT SAME VISION.
