We would
like to welcome you to the YMCA WESTSIDE SILVER FINS
(WSF) Website, a year-round
United States Swimming and YMCA team. A group of parents created
WSF in 1995 to provide a
year-round competitive swim team to build both physically and mentally
strong kids in the West Valley . In July 2005, WSF merged with the Southwest
Valley Regional YMCA to become the YMCA WESTSIDE SILVER FINS. Our new
facility includes an eight lane 50 meter pool with a separate warm up/lesson
pool, and state of the art workout facilities. Here are a few things that
will help you understand how our team works.
Head coach is responsible for all decisions
concerning practices and swim meets. Our team is
broken down into five practice groups based on
swimming abilities. We also have a Masters program
for the adult swimmers and 2005 was our first year
in training with a Special Olympic Swim Team. The
YMCA and an Advisory Committee oversee
WSF. The
Committee positions are all volunteer positions.
Committee members spend many hours behind the scenes
making sometimes difficult decisions that are deemed
best for the overall organization. The committee is
also responsible for overseeing fund raising
projects. Monies raised are utilized for purchasing
equipment, meet travel expenses and other team
needed expenditures. The Committee has a
responsibility to uphold the rules of USA Swimming
and to support the Head Coach by providing resources
to run the overall program.
